One look into Petey’s eyes and we instantly knew—he was the one. The bond was immediate, and we couldn’t wait to start the adoption process and welcome him into our family, which already included another beloved CAP pup.
While my boyfriend had adopted several dogs from Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) before, this was my first experience. He arranged a private tour for me on a Thursday, and after meeting the staff and seeing the facility, I fully understood why he trusted CAP time and again with such an important decision.
Petey had just arrived at CAP as a stray and was still in his mandatory “hold time.” He hadn’t yet been neutered or microchipped, but by Saturday evening, CAP let us know we could begin the adoption paperwork on Sunday. Since his surgery couldn’t be scheduled until Tuesday, CAP offered us the chance to foster him until the procedure was complete. We didn’t hesitate—we were so eager to bring him home, we couldn’t imagine leaving him there another day.
We brought Petey in on Monday, and after his surgery on Tuesday, we were able to bring him home—cone and all.
Every CAP staff member and volunteer we encountered made the process easy, compassionate, and incredibly personal. Their care and commitment were evident every step of the way.
CAP provides an invaluable service to Houston and its furry citizens. Thanks to them, our little Petey is now home—loved, safe, and exactly where he belongs.
