CAP Capital Campaign
About the Capital Campaign

Spurred on by an increased demand for our services, the need for more space and the fact that our current location is leased, CAP is building its first permanent home - the Jane Cizik Center. Each year CAP assists 12,000 to 13,000 homeless, lost and neglected animals. The current location is 6,000 sq. ft. of leased space, which could be subject to sale.
The new shelter will be 21,000 square feet located on 3.5 acres of park-like land facing I-10 at Barker-Clodine Road. For the last several years, the greater Houston population has grown by more than 100,000 a year. The increase in the population brings both more animals in need as well as more families available to adopt them.
In addition to sheltering and adoption services, the new shelter will enable CAP to expand its other programs, such as humane education, rescuing animals and providing foster care for special needs animals. Plans include space for an Education and Volunteer Center. CAP will also be able to provide its staff with an employee lounge and kitchen.
The center will allow more people to take part in the Weekend Sponsor Adoption Program, which allows individuals and families whose lives are transitioning due to moving, ill health or family situations to showcase their pets for adoption on the weekend without surrendering them to the shelter. The site also includes a park for walking shelter dogs and for families to get better acquainted with prospective companions.
A committee of very dedicated volunteers has undertaken the $9 million campaign that includes purchasing the land, construction and move in and a $2 million endowment to help defray the increased costs of operating the larger facility.

Hello! We're Missy & Rusty, the Capital Campaign Mascots!
"We were the adored canine companions of three homeless men living in a shelter in downtown Houston. When they rescued us, Rusty had been hit by a car. The men pooled their meager resources to take Rusty to a veterinarian who was able to save him, but not his badly mangled front leg. When their shelter lost its lease, the men called every animal agency in the city to try to find someone who could take us and keep us together. Only CAP supported their heartfelt wish to keep us together. Their wish (and ours too!) came true when a wonderful man, visiting CAP's website, was touched by our story. He came to see us at the shelter and it was love at first sight for all of us! We are now a part of his family, enjoying our great new home on several acres in the country. Our story is just one of thousands of success stories of the animals who come through CAP's doors each year."
Hi, I'm Happy, the Feline Mascot!
"I was brought to the shelter, like so many other animals, when my family moved. With open arms, CAP took me in and found me a loving home with a ready-made family of a mom, a ten-year-old child and another kitty! What more could I ask for?!"
