A Groundbreaking Celebration

The Groundbreaking Celebration for CAP's new animal shelter and pet adoption center, the Jane Cizik Center, took place on Thursday, September 17, 2009. Located at 17555 Katy Freeway, just five minutes west of our current shelter, the groundbreaking ceremony began with Ernie Manouse of KUHT, serving as Master of Ceremonies. The Reverend Robert Goolsby officiated the Blessing of the Animals Service for over 50 dogs and puppies in attendance!

The $7 million dollar project includes a 3.5 acre campus and a state of the art 21,000 square foot facility designed by PBK Architects. Private donations and foundation grants have funded the entire project. The lead gift was provided by The Robert and Jane Cizik Foundation, and the facility will be named in honor of Jane Cizik. With the continued help of generous and enthusiastic supporters, CAP is making a better future a reality for thousands of homeless animals in Houston. CAP Executive Director, Kappy Muenzer, states, “In addition to increasing sheltering and adoption services, the new facility will enable CAP to expand other service programs benefiting the community such as humane education, rescuing injured or trapped animals and providing foster care for special needs animals”.

CAP has received numerous awards for its shelter operations, including the National Humane Award of Excellence from PetsMart Charities and the Exceptional Adoption Placement Program Award from the New York ASPCA. CAP has the distinction of earning a 4-star rating for sound fiscal management with Charity Navigator for the seventh consecutive year. Only one percent of the charities rated nationwide have achieved this exceptional distinction.
